Revelation
Chapter 6
“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” Revelation 6:1-2
God likes the No.7; Revelation is a base-seven book. Since seven is the divine number of completion, and Revelation is the wrapping up of God’s program for creation - the book is replete with sevens;
With the opening of the seventh seals.
1. Seven trumpets are blown in sequence.
2. When the seventh trumpet blows, seven personages come forth.
3. After the seventh personage is introduced, seven vials are poured out.
4. With the seventh vial, seven dooms are recorded.
5. After the seventh doom, seven new things are recorded.
So you have seven sevens - seven churches, seven seals, seven trumpets, seven personages, seven vials, seven dooms, and seven new things.
The Book of Revelation is laid out logically and the events are in sequential order. There are six intervals, or pauses where the effects of the events just described are revealed. The future events of Revelation begin with the rapture in Chapter 4.
Chapter 5 speaks about the seven-sealed book, which is the title deed to creation. From this point on, the scene will move back and forth between heaven and earth. As each seal of the book is opened, events take place on earth.
The Lamb of God begins His campaign to exercise His claim over all of creation. This claim will be contested. The exercising of this claim begins with judgment upon those who resist His lordship in their life, in their government, in their religion, and in their commerce.
He will put down all principalities and powers that stand between Him and His Kingdom on earth. This judgment will begin when the first seal of the seven-sealed book is broken.
The 1st Seal is broken - The Unholy Advent
Enter our White Horse
The Lord Jesus, the Lamb of God, is in Heaven directing the events of the Apocalypse. He is the main player in this whole epic story. He is the one who looses all that is to come and He controls all events.
His significance is due to his arms, his crown, and the white horse he rides. It is enough to state here that he represents either some conqueror, or a conquering age.
In the multiple commentaries I have studied, and cross-referenced (at least 6 different ones)---my own personal conclusion is; that the rider of the white horse is not Jesus Christ.
First, Jesus is in heaven opening the seals and directing events from there. Jesus does not appear on earth until Chapter 19 at the battle of Armageddon. In addition, the peace that the rider brings is short-lived. The next rider on our red horse, has power to take peace from the earth.
When Jesus finally does bring peace on earth, no cowboy on a red horse will come and take it away!
The white rider has a bow, but no arrow. He has the means of warfare, but is viewed by the world as a peacemaker. He goes forth “conquering.” He conquers the world and develops, as the world’s dictator, by bringing in peace through diplomacy. He conquers without an arrow. He will be the final realization of the dream that brought forth - first the League of Nations, and then the United Nations. He will be successful at bringing in peace temporarily and will be rewarded with a crown. “A crown was given unto him” (Vs2).
At the beginning of the tribulation period, the Antichrist will make a covenant with the nations of the earth.
“And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:27
The first thing to be revealed after the rapture is the Antichrist!
“For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:” 2 Thessalonians 2:7-8
The Antichrist is out of the woodwork; when Jesus reclaims His creation and sets up His Kingdom on earth, this will draw out the Antichrist. The world has been moving for some time in the direction of a world dictator. And here he is!
The 2nd Seal is Broken - War
Enter our Red Horse
Previously, when the 1st Seal is broken, the white horse denoted prosperity, triumph, and happiness. Now the 2nd Seal is broken - so this would denote carnage, discord, and bloodshed.
When the 1st Seal is broken, there will be a false sense of security through the peace and tranquility that will be experienced. Obstinacy and hard heartedness, and a repetitive behavior in man throughout all of history - past, present, and definitely future; but this peace and tranquility will be taken away, and be succeeded by confusion and bloodshed - represented by the Red Horse through the breaking of the 2nd Seal;
“And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.” Revelation 6:3-4
The promises of the Antichrist, which the world has made a “benevolent” dictator, will turn out to be a lot of hot air. Many have tried to bring peace, and many have come and gone. There will never be any lasting peace until Jesus reigns supreme. Only one can bring peace to this corrupt planet, and He is the one on the throne - Our Lord and Saviour!
The rider on the red horse was given power to remove peace from the earth, from nations, and from individuals. And thus men go about killing each other when this rider gallops onto the scene.
Personal Observation
When I don‘t have peace in my heart, I am quite capable of slaying people in other ways; I might not take up a gun or a sword or slay through force, however, without that peace in my heart, I am capable of slaying people in other ways.
Whilst my tongue is harnessed on the leash of discipline, I am increasingly aware of the subtlety of Satan, and how my words can be wrapped up and tied with a bow of justification. We will always have explanatory dialogue (blah, blah, blah), which are plainly, wickedly, waffling words before a Holy God - especially the female gender (and no thanks to Eve).
We ladies, more often-than-not, have a hidden agenda. With our self-elevating tendencies, our multitalented, multifaceted, multidimensional DNA, it’s no surprise--- when I surprise myself with a response that reflects my fallen state.
Do you remember the first murder that took place?--the product of a man named Cain, who had no peace in his heart.
The only way to have peace is to allow our Lord’s government to increase. This world cries for peace, but they don’t want the Prince of Peace and they don’t want His government.
Many have tried to bring peace to this troubled planet, but they have all been unsuccessful. The reason is that the planet and all of creation has a problem. The problem was caused by sin! The world will never experience peace until the only one who can straighten out the sin problem arrives.
The same is true on an individual basis. There will be no peace in man’s heart until the sin problem is dealt with. Only one can remove sin and the effects of sin. You will not experience peace until you place yourself under His government. He is the Prince of Peace.
Daniel speaks of the struggle between holiness and sin - do you experience that already? Quite close to my heart, is a battle I face with the boardwalk between holiness and sin; I, with my feet firmly planted on the path of holiness, find myself staring at my own kindred---who deliberately choose to plant their feet on the path of sin. The closer I get to God, the less I have to say, and the more isolated I feel.
You’re in for the ride of your life! Tomorrow, we will open the 3rd and 4th Seal, and we can anticipate God's purpose, as the content is revealed.
I Love You,
Deborah
