Cosmic Chaos

Revelation 6:12-17

“And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.” Revelation 6:12-14

A Great Earthquake
  • The earliest recorded earthquake in history was in the Middle East - July of 365.

  • The most destructive recorded earthquake was in China – January 1556. 1 Million People died.

  • The worse recorded earthquake in the United States was in San Francisco – April 18, 1906. 700 people died, and it cost the government 500 Million.

  • Another devastating earthquake outside of America was in Anchorage, Alaska – March 27, 1964. 114 people died, and it cost the government 750 Million.

This great earthquake in Revelation will be as no other that has ever been recorded – it will exceed them all!

Sun Turns Black, Moon as Blood
Maybe as a result of Nuclear War? In a Nuclear explosion, the earth’s atmosphere rolls back on itself! In this tremendous rush of air, it backs into a vacuum that causes much of the destruction of a nuclear explosion.

    Physical Changes
When the sixth seal is released, physical changes begin to take place at a vastly accelerated pace. There are changes in the planet and the solar system, perhaps even changes in the entire universe. These changes begin to cause havoc on earth. The sun is darkened and the moon becomes red. Stars fall from outer space to earth. There is no conflict in interpreting this to speak of meteors crashing to the earth. We commonly refer to meteors as “shooting stars.” I am not sure what the heaven departing as a scroll means, but I am certain that it is not a good thing for those on earth at the time. Every mountain and island being moved out of its place - perhaps the outer plates of the earth’s crust whirling about and crashing against one another.
Does the language of Revelation 6:12-14 sound familiar?

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.” Joel 2:28-32

The Greatest Prayer Meeting
“And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Revelation 6:15-17

The greatest prayer meeting in History; but they prayed for the wrong thing! The only object to protect the sinner from the wrath of the Lamb is the righteousness of the Lamb.

In their desperation, men reveal what is on their heart. They run to the dens in the rocks and mountains and plead for the rocks to fall upon them. They want to end their life anyway possible rather than face the wrath of the Lamb. It is the day of His wrath. It has finally come. Who shall be able to stand?

Isn’t it ironic – “The wrath of the Lamb?” When sinners look at the Lamb they see a roaring Lion about to take vengeance. But when John looked at the Lion of Judah in chapter 5, he saw a Lamb (Revelation 5:5-6). It all depends on which side of the blood of Jesus you stand.

Today is the day of Grace, the day of mercy and forgiveness. Tomorrow is a day of vengeance, wrath, and judgment. You can face Him today, or you can face Him tomorrow. But you will not escape Him.

You can place your life on the altar today and find forgiveness, mercy, and peace. Or you can wait and hope that your soul will be found under the altar later. But I wouldn’t count on it! If I understand what I read in this book, if you have read this today, your only chance is to give God your tomorrows now! Your only chance is to place yourself under His blood today!

The prophecy of Revelation was not recorded to help you endure the tribulation. It was given to help you avoid it. The Lamb paid the price so that you would not have to experience His wrath. Put your life on the altar today so that you aren’t trying to get under the altar later.

I Love You,
Deborah
